Paediatric Neurosurgery
At Macquarie University Hospital we have a dedicated, passionate and experienced Paediatric Neurosurgery team caring for outpatient and inpatient children and adolescents with neurosurgical conditions.
In our Paediatric Neurosurgery Clinic we see young patients of all ages from prenatal consultations, babies and toddlers to young children, teenagers and adolescents and sometimes even adults with conditions that are more common in younger patient populations.
We provide holistic care within a multidisciplinary team, often involving other specialties including paediatricians, paediatric neurologists, neurooncologists, neuropathologists, interventional and conventional neuroradiologists, radiation oncologists, urologists, orthopaedics, rehabilitation specialists as well as allied health specialists, to provide best possible care according to international gold standards and treatment guidelines.
We follow our patients from the initial consultation and assessment all the way to routine surveillances.
Covering all aspects of Paediatric Neurosurgery with have specific emphasis on the following conditions:
- Tethered Cord and Spinal Cord Lipomas
- Spina bifida occulta and aperta / Dysraphism
- Hydrocephalus
- Chiari malformation
- Plagiocephaly and Craniosynostosis – Craniofacial Surgery
- Paediatric Neurooncology, brain tumours and spinal lesions
- Dermoid cysts, scalp lesions
Paediatric Neurosurgery is a subspecialty of Neurosurgery requiring additional fellowship training and qualification. At Macquarie University Hospital, Associate Professor Sebastian Eibach is leading the Paediatric Neurosurgery group. He acquired his subspecialty qualification in Paediatric Neurosurgery during his fellowship in San Francisco, USA under the mentorship of Professor Dachling Pang, a world leading pioneer and expert in this field.
During his subspecialisation he gained invaluable surgical, clinical and research experience. The Paediatric Neurosurgery team values its international clinical and scientific cooperations.
