Dr Matthew Tait

Dr Matthew Tait

Dr Matthew Tait is a specialist in the neurosurgical treatment of disorders of the spine and also in treatment of diseases of the blood vessels of the brain (cerebrovascular surgery).

 

He has completed additional post-fellowship training in both areas: Complex spine surgery at Kings College London and cerebrovascular surgery at Royal North Shore Hospital and the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona.

 

Matthew trained as a doctor at both Oxford University and University College London Medical Schools before undertaking neurosurgery training in Sydney (Royal North Shore Hospital) and London (Kings College Hospital and Atkinson Morely Wing, St George’s Hospital).

As a result, he is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Australasian Surgeons (FRACS) and the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS). On completing Neurosurgery training he graduated top of his year winning the Norman Dott medal for most outstanding performance.

 

Matthew is very committed to medical research. He is a Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University. His current research interests are in investigating techniques to reduce post-operative pain following spinal surgery to make operations safer and less unpleasant for patients. He is also working to develop better ways to identify which patients will benefit from surgery so that patients do not undergo ineffective procedures. During neurosurgery training he completed an Oxford University research doctorate (DM) on the treatment of brain swelling after subarachnoid haemorrhage.

 

He has published over 50 book chapters, journal articles, academic posters and abstracts. His original journal articles have received more than 700 citations.
